New Album – Chromeo DJ Kicks

Tagged Under : , , ,

Chromeo - DJ KicksStudio !K7 have produced the goods again by adding Chromeo to their long list of artists on their DJ-Kicks albums. The Montreal duo had some big shoes to fill with this album following previous DJ-Kicks albums from the likes of Erlend Oye, Tiga and Hot Chip to name a few. This latest version fails to disappoint with some classic blends of jazz, synth and funk will keep you bopping for hours on end.

The album features some old skool electronic sounds from back in the 80’s such as the opener Kano - Ikeya Seki which has been recently sampled by Ed Banger’s Kavinsky for his song Grand Canyon. Check the slick microsite for the album at chromeo-djkicks.com which includes the full tracklist and a 15 minute album preview.

DAFT PUNK Music in New TRON Movie Viral Stunt

Hailfairy is delighted to report on new Daft Punk material from an incredible viral marketing stunt in San Diego yesterday evening for Disney’s upcoming remake of the cult hit TRON. You can read about the viral stunt HERE but in a nutshell it involved a 500 TRON-mad gang going on a treasure hunt in San Diego only to find a complete remake of Flynn’s the arcade and its the Space Paranoids game that featured in the first movie. Treasure hunters were then greeted with a secret corridor leading to a life-size remake of the the Lightcycle from TRON (pictured above).

What’s the significance of all this for an electronic music blog? Well sources have confirmed that Daft Punk are composing the 24 track Score for the TRON soundtrack, due to be released in 2011. If you can get by the nerdy whispering in the video below from the TRON viral stunt last night you’ll hear one of the new tracks from this TRON score. All very exciting stuff and we are looking forward to a possible new Daft Punk album in March 2010 followed by TRON’s release in 2011!

Check out an amazing sneak preview of the Film Here!! Looks incredible visually! We’re excited!!

Upcoming Album: Boys Noize – Power

Boys Noize’s Twitter and Erol Alkan’s Forum have confirmed that the upcoming Boys Noize album entitled ‘Power’ will be released late September 2009 on BNR. For all those rapidshare looters out there, the unibrowed German’s album preview will have a robot voice over every minute on each track of the album which was terribly annoying for ‘Oi Oi Oi’ but is a clever way of protecting copyright. Speculation on the album cover has reached ridiculous heights on German forum The New French Touch but Hailfairy expects a skull of some sort.

Most Boys Noize fans already have a good idea of least 4 of the new album’s 13 tracks after Ridha released Starter and Jeffer on June 22nd,  which performed well on the Beatport chart. Starter is a classic industrial electronic Boys Noize track with louder scratches, kicks and huge loops whilst Jeffer which took a a few reworks before Ridha tweaked it has more of a summer disco house track tailored for sunny beaches in the Med. As for the rest, Ridha has already confessed to playing 11 of the 13 tracks in recent livesets such as Rock Werchter which you can find the liveset for in this post. One to watch is the intro banger ‘Come With Me’, the second track on recent Rock Werchter  and Oxegen livesets  Check out his first preview of it below at SXSW back in March.

The rumour mill is going mad on music forums for the other tracks on the album. Find the loosely constructed track listings below. Looking forward to hearing the rest of these in the not too distant future, especially the Talking to Cats remix with Diplo:

Upcoming Gig – Major Lazer @ Electric Picnic 2009

MAJOR LAZER

What an absolute delight last Thursday to get an email from Electric Picnic announcing new acts for the madness in early September. One of the most anticipated acts must be Diplo and Switches collective Major Lazer, based on a one-armed Jamaican ex-commando Gorillaz styled cartoon character. The album Guns Don’t Kill People….Lazers Do is a hyperactive and ambitious attempt to fuse reggae with electro mainstream and will keep you bopping for hours at EP.

Check out their addictive baby Autotune below. Pity its only a minute long:

Major Lazer – Baby

Pon De Floor is another track on the album that’s already found its way into a few livesets I’ve been hearing of late. Check Below:

Major Lazer – Pon De Floor

Expect a packed Electric Picnic dance tent going off to crazy Rastafarian styled bangers, Fluoro Graphics and Ghetto-Bootied Reggae Dancers like in the video below from a recent gig of theirs in NYC!
