New Album – Chromeo DJ Kicks

Studio !K7 have produced the goods again by adding Chromeo to their long list of artists on their DJ-Kicks albums. The Montreal duo had some big shoes to fill with this album following previous DJ-Kicks albums from the likes of Erlend Oye, Tiga and Hot Chip to name a few. This latest version fails to disappoint with some classic blends of jazz, synth and funk will keep you bopping for hours on end.

The album features some old skool electronic sounds from back in the 80’s such as the opener Kano - Ikeya Seki which has been recently sampled by Ed Banger’s Kavinsky for his song Grand Canyon. Some Classixx Tracks and Remixes

Hailfairy came across LA based Classixx aka Michael David and Tyler Blake on a recent Aeroplane June Mixtape which featured two of their more recent tracks ‘I’ll Get You’ and their remix of one of Phoenix’s new tracks ‘Lisztomania’. Due to copyright infringement from a Boys Choir with the same name, the boys have changed their name from a shocking ‘Young Americans’ and are finally making a name for themselves stateside for their own blend of funky and jazzy electronic beats. Recently they’ve featured on a Kitsune Tape and they’re also doing some support gigs with Justice in LA this October.

This milder blend of synth and jazz based electro has become more popular of late and as much as we love the banging stuff, it’s nice to chill out to these beats ever so often. Check out the two Classixx tracks below as well as Aeroplane’s most recent Soundcloud offering.

The Boy, the Cat and a Mouse at UCD

College is back and electro-loving UCD students have a chance to see some of the summer’s most banging acts in the next few weeks with Felix da Housecat, Boys Noize and Deadmau5 coming to the UCD Student Bar. This student bar has seen it’s fair share of quality acts in the past including Digitalism, Erol Alkan and Justice (check the vid of Erol’s finale there a few years back below). The Ents guys have done it again with a week on week line-up in September and October. Felix is kicking off what UCD are calling ‘Ibiza in UCD’ tomorrow the 23^rd of September. Then Boys Noize is set to play on the 1^st of October with Deadmau5 playing an early gig on October 16^th before heading for his second gig of the night in the Academy.

The student bar may not be the best venue but if you like your DJ’s at arms length, arrive early to get up the front for some up close, personal and always sweaty action. From experience, electro nights in UCD are usually utter debauchery so be prepared if you’re considering it. With tickets starting at aprox. €16 per gig and €40 for the lot it’s certainly better value than seeing these guys in the Academy, where you’re talking €28.50 for Boys Noize on October 2^nd and €32.70 for Deadmau5 on October 16^th.

Bag Raiders – Shooting Stars

Sydney outfit Chris Stracey and Jack Glass AKA Bag Raiders have been making some noize on the upsidedown side of late with their EP’s ‘Fun Punch’ ‘Turbo Love’ and ‘Shooting Stars’. Regulars at Sounds on Sunday, Field Day and Shore Thing down under the boys are just back from a successful tour of the US and South America.

The boys fit into a genre of Sydney Electro-Pop with other artists like Cut Copy, Muscles, The Presets and Empire of the Sun. Currently working on their first album, we expect some more addictive tracks from these guys on Modular Records very soon along with a whole of load of their songs remixed.
