Ok we’re absolutely blown away by this! One of us had been questioning the man recently on whether he still got it, and the answer is a definitive YES!

There is just so much energy in this set and it’s hard to imagine that the whole set was done on vinyl. This Essential Mix features Ridha’s favourite tracks for the last 10 years!

Berlin’s Boys Noize aka Alex Ridha takes to the turntables for two hours of supercharged house & techno!

We’re mad for livesets at Hailfairy so we’ve decided to start delivering all the top sets we find on a monthly basis on sites like www.livesets.com and Erol Alkan’s Forum.

The first two sets this month are with thanks to Alexxx from Kobra who seems to have a knack for big electro scoops. First up this month is Zombie Nation’s Liveset from Electric Picnic 2009. Unfortunately for the uber-talented DJ, the crowd was elsewhere at Erol Alkan and Basement Jaxx on Sunday at EP. Thank God for BBC iPlayer and the ATL show for making this whopper set available again.

Secondly is Boys Noize’s August 09 Mixtape which features a rake of tracks from the upcoming album ‘Power’ which is due for release in less than a month and has been hotly anticipated by all electronic fans. Expect the same sort of flavour at his ‘Power’ World Tour stop in Dublin in October.

PAXAHAU

Next up it’s Cadenza main Luciano, the gain on this recording might be a fraction high, but if anything that just gives it more of the feel of being at the club., which can only be a good thing. Just love this guys sound, great Rhythm to this. We’ve had this on repeat repeat Repeat!

Last up it’s Mannheim boy Johnny D, a Sven Vath fav who plays ILT this year and probably the main act we’d like to go see. He’s got a great track selection, groovy and just a bit more chilled out than Luciano’s set, a warm up set if you will!

Just got this from Richie Hawtins facebook page, this is probably the most exciting news I’ve heard this year, as Richie is notorious for not allowing people to record his sets. The guy has changed loads, for the better obviously. He’s given us an amazing twitter application that allows you to follow what tracks he’s playing as he’d djing and now BBC1 have recorded one of the best 2 hour of techno that i’ve been at. So excited about this, roll on 18th July!
“ (We are excited to announce the upcoming Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1 featuring Dubfire and Richie Hawtin.

The session was recorded live at Exit Festival in Novi Sad on Friday, July 10th where both artists played back to back!

The “Dubfire+Hawtin Click to Click” Essential Mix at Exit premiers July 18th 0300 BST on BBC Radio 1 and will be available for listen anytime for seven days at www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/essentialmix
To see pictures from the event just check out the experience section on m-nus.com or follow this link.”

EXIT Festival, Novi Sad, Serbia 2009

spaceballHawtin vs Dubfire Dance Stage

Wow, where do I begin?  The Serb’s are Mental! The Fortress where Exit has been based for the last 10 years has to be the best naturally designed venue for a festival i’ve ever been to. Each stage is set below in a gigantic mote that runs around the fort, and each stage has to be seen to be believed! Every morning around 5am the sun would come up and the crowd would go mental.  It’s an unbelievable fortress that would make scaling the walls of Helms Deep childsplay stuff!. A man actually died on the 3rd night after falling off one of them! The Serb’s said it was nothing new as someone usually dies once a year ! There are over 20 stages scattered throughout the fortress, with most of them the same size and set amongst the moat. The Main Stage is pretty bland which we didn’t bother visiting once, although we heard The prodigy rocked it! But we came all this way for one thing only… Richie Hawtin and the legendary Exit Dance Stage! It’s a perfect amphitheatre that captures everything, giving off incredible sound. First night we got a bit of Lee Burridge and Steve Lawler who wouldn’t usually be my cup of tea but they were actually quite good. Actually i think even tiesto would ‘ve sounded good to me at that stage such was the pumping sound coming out of the speakers. What you do is you come down these two huge temporary steps on either side of the dance stage, that’s basically scaffolding where you can see down to the bottom, once you get down and turn your looking right down to the dance stage which just looks evil whilst taking your breath away, the place never stops and just goes on and on til 8am in the morning.

Personally i would’ve rather have seen Richie work his magic on his own as he’s one of the most hands on Dj’s out there and with Ali Dubfire still being a bit of a NOOB to the whole minimal sound, that’s not to say i don’t love the guy. There’s photo’s even of richie taking over Dubfire’s rig and showing him what to do!! It was only early last year when Ali was in Dirty Deep Dish, and i remember reading an article where he said how much he idolised Richie all these years, so I’d say it was a special night for him I’m sure. Either way it was special! The heavens opened about halfway through their set and i mean absolutely bucketed down! which started a mass exodus from the place, it became a mudbath with bodies sliding everywhere. Apparently it never rains which was a pity because Loco Dice and Magda were on next. Another pairing that should never have been but together and didn’t work. Just to explain about the pairings, it was Exit’s tenth anniversary so they decide to do all the Dance Artist’s back to back (b2b).Next year i’m bringing jeans and wellies as its not nearly as warm as you’d think! Here are a couple of vids when the rain was coming up, there was no sun that morning!!

(Sorry i’m just gonna cut in here and name drop… The reception Lady in our hotel recommended this restaurant called Salsa 137 for dinner one night and who was sitting beside us?, none other than Richie himself, my personal highlight of the whole week, nice guy. He said have fun!)

I’d Recommend the trip to everyone. Flights were 250 Euro Return, Exit ticket was 80 Euro, we stayed ****star Hotel for 50 euro a night. Taxi’s are never more than 2 Euro and 1 Litre of Vodka is 5 euo and 20 smokes 75cents!

Here is a pretty good quality video of Steve Angello and Sebastien Ingrosso dropping  Billie Jean to the delight of the crowd.

Here are some sets that i haven’t heard yet but i’m dying to as i’m still stuck in Budapest. They were ripped from a National broadcast of the festival so i hope the quality is ok.

Oxegen 2009 – Sat and Sun Roundup

BloodyBeetrootsOxegen09

One half of Hailfairy is home, clean and dry after a manic few days at Oxegen. The other half is still lost in Serbia at Exit festival and has promised to post an Exit roundup home his return to Ireland.

With so many highlights over the Sat and Sun at Oxegen it’s hard to know where to start so here goes the chronological breakdown. For a better idea of the atmosphere, you have to read Jim Carroll’s Round up on Irishtimes.com.

Also have a look at Adnansorg’s Flickr for some hilarious pics from the oxegen dance tent like the one below:

Saturday:

With such an impressive lineup it was hard to know what to choose on Saturday. Arriving in the late afternoon to pucks of rain, our running order was Popof, followed by some Passion Pit, then Lecktroluv, Digitalism, Annie Mac, Boys Noize, wee bit of Tiga and finally Kings of Leon.

Lectroluv is always on of the Oxegen Dance Arena’s favourite acts. The Green Doctor had a nack of mixing into each track just before it dropped and Saturday evenings crowd went completely mad to it.

Saturday’s highlight had to be Boys Noize, who played to a packed crowd under a massive rotating crystal ball skull. Most of the tracks from his upcoming album were thrown in including Jeffer and Starter. He also managed to drop in MJs ‘Beat It’ which had the crowd going absolutely mad. Definitely check out his similar Rock Werchter liveset below featuring all his new material. Cant wait for the new album to drop in Autumn09, and especially the track ‘Come With Me’ which features 4 mins in on this set:

Boys Noize – Come With Me (liveset rip)

No trip to Oxegen is complete without the compulsory trip to see Kings Of Leon. The talented rednecks got fairly emotional on stage as they thanked the Oxegen crowd for all their support over the years. You really need to be as close as possible to the main stage for the best sound quality which we unfortunately weren’t after coming late from Tiga. T’was a quality singalong all the same though.

Sunday:

Sunday at Oxegen is always a more cruisy affair as the largest festival in Ireland slowly grinds to a close. The foreboding rainclouds and muddy fields didn’t dampen spirits with another incredible lineup. We bailed into the dance tent relatively early to catch a bit of Kissy Sell Out who was throwing out an appealing blend of intense electro and drum’n'bass.

Oxegen Mud

Yuksek was a bit out of place in a nearly empty dance arena with the remaining contingent consisting of near naked and completely wasted kids kitted out in fluro teeshirts and cowboy hats. His setup is just insane with two FX keyboards, 2 microphones, synth machines and the obligatory Macbook Pro, allowing him to play completely live including vocals. Highlight was definitely ‘Break Ya’

Yuksek – Break Ya

After a short shisha break, we checked out the nearby Red Bull Music Academy to check out Norway’s most recent electronic act, The Casio Kids were giving Ireland another sample of their potential following a cool little gig in Acedemy 2 recently. We absolutely loved their cool electronic drum machine additions and these boys seemed to be having to time of their lives finishing their set with a sped up live version of their popular hit ‘Fot I Hose’. Check the vid below:

Next on the dance agenda were the Venomous Bloody Beetroots who couldn’t contain their own emotions as they kept running down to the front of the stage to G-up the crowd. A lively set was always expected from this Italian duo and my god did they deliver with tracks like WARP. In fact I heard WARP being played by no less than 5 DJs over the weekend!

The Bloody Beetroots feat Steve Aoki – Warp 1-9

Looking forward to finding this liveset somewhere on the net, but in the meantime check out their Coachella 2009 liveset below:

Bloody Beetroots Live at Coachella 2009 (Mediafire)

MSTRKRFT have been receiving loads of attention with their new album ‘Fist of God’ just being released. They played loads of their own stuff to a thoroughly energized crowd after the Bloody Beetroots including VUVUVU. The highlight of this set had to be their finish where they used their own remixed version of Benni Benazzi’s satisfaction and mixed it into Bohemian Rhapsody. Brilliant stuff!

It was also cool to check out Ms Kitten and the Hacker’s new live show but yet again, the 17yr old fluro contingent didn’t respond to them so well and were throwing the odd bottle. Shame really!

Ms Kitten and the Hacker Oxegen 2009

After MSTRKRFT and a quick bop with Dublin Band The Chapters, we ventured towards the red Bull Music Academy Tent again for something new and different in the form of Florence and the Machine. WOW did they amaze! I’ve never seen such an impressive reaction from the absolutely jam-packed tent. Expecting big things from these guys in the near future.

Finally, for some recordings of the weekend’s action, check some of the liveset snippets below with thanks to 2FM.
