One half of Hailfairy is home, clean and dry after a manic few days at Oxegen. The other half is still lost in Serbia at Exit festival and has promised to post an Exit roundup home his return to Ireland.
With so many highlights over the Sat and Sun at Oxegen it’s hard to know where to start so here goes the chronological breakdown. For a better idea of the atmosphere, you have to read Jim Carroll’s Round up on Irishtimes.com.
Also have a look at Adnansorg’s Flickr for some hilarious pics from the oxegen dance tent like the one below:
Saturday:
With such an impressive lineup it was hard to know what to choose on Saturday. Arriving in the late afternoon to pucks of rain, our running order was Popof, followed by some Passion Pit, then Lecktroluv, Digitalism, Annie Mac, Boys Noize, wee bit of Tiga and finally Kings of Leon.
Lectroluv is always on of the Oxegen Dance Arena’s favourite acts. The Green Doctor had a nack of mixing into each track just before it dropped and Saturday evenings crowd went completely mad to it.
Saturday’s highlight had to be Boys Noize, who played to a packed crowd under a massive rotating crystal ball skull. Most of the tracks from his upcoming album were thrown in including Jeffer and Starter. He also managed to drop in MJs ‘Beat It’ which had the crowd going absolutely mad. Definitely check out his similar Rock Werchter liveset below featuring all his new material. Cant wait for the new album to drop in Autumn09, and especially the track ‘Come With Me’ which features 4 mins in on this set:

No trip to Oxegen is complete without the compulsory trip to see Kings Of Leon. The talented rednecks got fairly emotional on stage as they thanked the Oxegen crowd for all their support over the years. You really need to be as close as possible to the main stage for the best sound quality which we unfortunately weren’t after coming late from Tiga. T’was a quality singalong all the same though.
Sunday:
Sunday at Oxegen is always a more cruisy affair as the largest festival in Ireland slowly grinds to a close. The foreboding rainclouds and muddy fields didn’t dampen spirits with another incredible lineup. We bailed into the dance tent relatively early to catch a bit of Kissy Sell Out who was throwing out an appealing blend of intense electro and drum’n'bass.
Yuksek was a bit out of place in a nearly empty dance arena with the remaining contingent consisting of near naked and completely wasted kids kitted out in fluro teeshirts and cowboy hats. His setup is just insane with two FX keyboards, 2 microphones, synth machines and the obligatory Macbook Pro, allowing him to play completely live including vocals. Highlight was definitely ‘Break Ya’

After a short shisha break, we checked out the nearby Red Bull Music Academy to check out Norway’s most recent electronic act, The Casio Kids were giving Ireland another sample of their potential following a cool little gig in Acedemy 2 recently. We absolutely loved their cool electronic drum machine additions and these boys seemed to be having to time of their lives finishing their set with a sped up live version of their popular hit ‘Fot I Hose’. Check the vid below:
Next on the dance agenda were the Venomous Bloody Beetroots who couldn’t contain their own emotions as they kept running down to the front of the stage to G-up the crowd. A lively set was always expected from this Italian duo and my god did they deliver with tracks like WARP. In fact I heard WARP being played by no less than 5 DJs over the weekend!

Looking forward to finding this liveset somewhere on the net, but in the meantime check out their Coachella 2009 liveset below:

MSTRKRFT have been receiving loads of attention with their new album ‘Fist of God’ just being released. They played loads of their own stuff to a thoroughly energized crowd after the Bloody Beetroots including VUVUVU. The highlight of this set had to be their finish where they used their own remixed version of Benni Benazzi’s satisfaction and mixed it into Bohemian Rhapsody. Brilliant stuff!
It was also cool to check out Ms Kitten and the Hacker’s new live show but yet again, the 17yr old fluro contingent didn’t respond to them so well and were throwing the odd bottle. Shame really!
After MSTRKRFT and a quick bop with Dublin Band The Chapters, we ventured towards the red Bull Music Academy Tent again for something new and different in the form of Florence and the Machine. WOW did they amaze! I’ve never seen such an impressive reaction from the absolutely jam-packed tent. Expecting big things from these guys in the near future.
Finally, for some recordings of the weekend’s action, check some of the liveset snippets below with thanks to 2FM.
