How many tracks have you heard in the last couple of years with those “White Noise” blasts, or a song that just builds and builds? Well we’ve heard lots and Dubfire is the man thats been credited with starting it all (the White Noise that is). Resident Advisor, even ran an article on him last month discussing this. Hundreds of artists have since copied this technique. Its all thanks to “Emissions” and its hard to believe was released way back in 2007!
Another track that inspired others like it with its “Slow Rise”, and endless building and building is Christian Smith & John Selways “Total Departure”. Its another 2007 release on Adam Beyers Drumcode Label, and as John Selway himself says
“We originally created the track as both a simple and effective DJ tool and for elements we could use in our live sets. We never expected how it would blow up the way it did, we were really surprised!“
Be sure to check out the Cirez D remix of “Total Departure” as it to is a monster, and even more techno orientated. It had huge support from the likes of Ivan Smagghe when it was originally reased. Massive!
And here’s a track that fuses both the “White Noise” and “Slow Rise” to perfection… We remember first hearing this when Sven played Tripod April 2008. It blew us away, we got a crappy recording of it on one of our phones and after several days trying to Track ID it, we found out it was coming out on Svens “Cocoon Compilation H” , happy days. And of course Dubfire had a hand in the production of this too!
Just got wind of this thanks to our friends over atrcrdlbl.com, if you follow our blog you’ll know just how much we love Style of Eye and yes he’s done it again with his amazing take on Riton & Primary 1’s – Who’s There. Some of the sounds he’s making these days are mindbending!. He seems to be knocking out a remix a day now it seems, and the quality doesn’t suffer… if anything the quality’s getting better! Take a bow Style of Eye.
‘Who’s There?’, the fifth release on Phantasy, is a collaboration between one of the UKs finest DJs and one of the most exciting new artists of next year.
Already cited as the finest paranoid rap classic since Geto Boys ‘My Minds Playin Tricks On Me’ and charted at number 1 by A-Trak in his June top 10.
Following recent successes with the Bloody Beetroots and Lovefoxx, Dublin based promoters Transmission are producing the goods again by lining up Teenage Bad Girl and Rebotini for next Saturday Night the 25th July in The Button Factory in Temple Bar. Tickets are 15 lids and you can buy em here.
Teenage Bad Girl is French duo Guillaume Manbell and Greg Kazubski. The French lads are well known for their album Cocotte, released back in 2007 for which artist Rockwell made the cool album cover for. Expect these guys to launch straight into a banging set full of the EdBangeresque french electronic style such as the Boys Noize rework of Cocotte below and their own remix of Goose’s ‘Bring it on’:
Hailfairy is excited about seeing Arnaud Rebotini, the French electro/techno producer and vocalist for Black Strobe. Rebotini has a vision to play 100% live without the use of a computer. The idea is to build a dancefloor set without using laptop or external sequencer but around emblematic machines and keyboards such as TR 909, TR 808, SH 101, JUNO 60 and KORG MONOPOLY. His latest album ‘Music Components’ is a blend of pure deep and mesmerising electronic techno like 777 below. Looking forward to this sterling lineup in 6 days time!
The man is Linus Eklow aka Style Of Eye and he hails from Sweden, Resident Advisor have him down as the “New sultan of Scando techno”. He is famed for his incredible productions, that boggle the mind and also for his massive remixes. He has been prolific as of late, churning out just under a dozen remixes since Christmas, each as good as the other.. He can also take a lot of credit for making techno more accessible for the new kids. Everyone from Sven Vath to Tiga and Erol Alkan have been playing out his records. Two Tracks here that need no promotion, just have a listen.
